A DIY home server running TrueNAS OS, built to bring self-hosted storage into the same segmented architecture as the rest of the network — not just a NAS sitting on the network, but a purpose-placed one.

Build: Starting with 3x 2TB drives in a RAIDZ1 configuration (redundancy against a single drive failure while keeping usable capacity reasonable), with room to add drives as storage needs grow.

Network integration: Lives on the dedicated Servers VLAN established during the network upgrade — reachable only from the Trusted VLAN under the least-privilege firewall policy, with no exposure to IoT or Guest traffic.

Use case: Centralized storage for movies, photos, and files today — and the planned landing spot for local camera footage archiving once the Security Cameras & Smart Home project is complete, reducing reliance on cloud storage for Unifi Protect recordings.
